Stutter freely, communicate more comfortably, or build greater control over your speech. The goals are yours to choose. Our speech-language pathologists support children, teens, and adults with stuttering, cluttering, and other fluency concerns through individualized, neurodiversity-affirming care.
How Stuttering Shows Up, and What It Costs You
Stuttering is more than repeated sounds or a stuck word. It shapes how confident you feel walking into meetings, interviews, and everyday chats, long after the moment of catching passes.
Symptoms
Stuttering looks different for everyone, but a handful of patterns show up again and again in how adults speak day to day.
Repetitions
Repeating sounds or syllables, like starting a word two or three times before it lands.
Prolongations
Stretching a sound out, so a word takes noticeably longer to leave your mouth.
Blocks
A pause where you're ready to speak, but sound won't come, silent or audible.
Physical tension
Visible strain in the jaw, lips, or throat while pushing a word out.

What Therapy May Involve
Every child's plan looks different depending on their age, communication style, and how they feel about their speech. Support may include:
Working with parents and schools
Recognizing Stuttering in Children
Many children go through a stage of disfluent speech as they're learning to talk. For some, it settles on its own. For others, it continues and may benefit from support. An assessment can help determine which situation applies.
What parents may notice:
Repetitions, prolongations, or blocks
Sounds, syllables, or words that repeat, stretch out, or get stuck.
Physical tension
Visible strain in the face, jaw, or body while trying to speak.
Frustration or avoidance
A child may get upset, go quiet, or start avoiding certain words or situations.
Variability
Fluency can shift depending on who your child is talking to, how tired they are, or what's happening around them.
Family history and timing
How long the stuttering has been present, and whether other family members stutter, both help shape the picture.
We look at more than how often a child stutters. How a child experiences talking, whether they seem bothered by it, avoid it, or don't think much of it at all, matters just as much as counting disfluencies.
Stuttering isn't caused by parenting, anxiety, or raising a child in more than one language. None of these cause stuttering, though they can affect how a child feels about talking in the moment.
Why It's Not About Fixing You
Stuttering isn't a flaw in how you speak. It's simply one way speech can naturally work, and plenty of adults stutter their whole lives while living full, articulate, successful ones. Our job here isn't to erase your stutter or make you sound like someone else. It's to give you more choice in how you communicate, whether that means smoother speech, easier blocks, or simply less fear around talking out loud.
You choose the goal, not us.
Fluency isn't the only success.
Your voice stays authentically yours.
Support, never a forced cure.
Can Adults Still Improve Their Stuttering?

Cluttering: When Speech Feels Too Fast or Difficult to Organize
Cluttering may involve speech that sounds unusually fast or irregular, reduced clarity, frequent revisions or fillers, irregular pauses, collapsed syllables, or difficulty organizing a message clearly. A person's speech may sound clearer in structured situations and become harder to understand during relaxed or spontaneous conversation. Cluttering can occur independently or alongside stuttering.

Our speech-language pathologists can provide counselling connected to communication experiences, stuttering, and avoidance. Broader anxiety or mental health concerns are best supported by, or alongside, a qualified mental health professional. We're glad to coordinate that referral where it's useful.

We draw on four approaches with genuine evidence behind adult stuttering care, then match the mix to your goals, your history, and how you personally want therapy sessions to feel and progress.
