Speech Language Pathologist Assistant

About Alessia

I am a Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant with experience supporting children with a wide range of communication needs in both clinic and home-based settings. Under the supervision of registered Speech-Language Pathologists, I provide individualized therapy that targets speech, language, social communication, and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) skills. I'm passionate about creating engaging, play-based therapy sessions that help children build confidence while working toward meaningful communication goals.

Before becoming an SLP-A, I worked as a behavioral interventionist, providing one-on-one ABA therapy to children with autism. This experience strengthened my understanding of child development, behavior support strategies, and the importance of collaborating closely with families to promote skill development across everyday environments. It also reinforced my belief that every child communicates differently and deserves individualized, strengths-based support. Prior to this, I taught taekwondo to students of all ages, which helped me develop strong communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills while adapting my teaching approach to meet each individual's needs.

I completed my Bachelor of Science in Psychology at the University of British Columbia Okanagan, where I developed a strong understanding of child development, communication, and behavior. I enjoy building positive relationships with children and their families and strive to make therapy both motivating and meaningful by incorporating each child's interests into sessions.

I'm fluent in both English and Spanish and hold current CPR and Standard First Aid certifications.

Therapy Philosophy

I believe that the best therapy happens when children feel safe, engaged, and excited to learn. I strive to create fun, child-led sessions that build on each child's unique strengths while working toward functional communication goals. I value collaborating closely with families so that skills learned in therapy can be carried over into everyday routines and meaningful interactions.
