About Ysanna
Hi, I'm Ysa! I am a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) with a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Sciences and Psychology from the University of British Columbia (UBC). My passion for working with children developed through both my education and hands-on experiences supporting their growth and development. Before becoming an SLPA, I worked as a Behaviour Interventionist (BI) for one year, where I gained valuable experience supporting children with a variety of communication and developmental needs. I have since worked as an SLPA for 1.5 years with children ages 2–12 in settings including private clinics, clients’ homes, preschools, daycares, and elementary schools.
I believe that children learn best when they feel safe, supported, and excited to participate. My therapy approach is play-based and child-led, allowing me to create meaningful learning opportunities that are guided by each child’s unique interests, strengths, and communication goals. I enjoy building connections with children and celebrating their progress, whether it is learning a new skill, finding a new way to express themselves, or gaining confidence in their ability to communicate. One of the most rewarding parts of my work is seeing how the skills developed in therapy can positively impact a child’s everyday life at home, at school, and in their community.
I also speak conversational French, having completed my education through a French immersion program. While I have had fewer opportunities to practice recently, I continue to value my French language skills and the ability to connect with others through language.

Therapy Philosophy
My therapy approach is rooted in play-based, child-led intervention, allowing children to learn and develop communication skills through activities that are meaningful, motivating, and fun. I believe children learn best when they feel comfortable, engaged, and excited to participate. Building positive relationships is an important part of my approach, and I strive to create a supportive environment where children feel confident exploring new skills and expressing themselves. By incorporating each child’s interests, strengths, and communication goals, I support the development of functional communication skills that can be carried over into their everyday lives at home, school, and in the community.
